Book 1
by William Howard
Book 1 introduces thumb position through direct comparison with first position, helping students transfer familiar patterns into a new register with confidence. Each piece first appears in first position and then in octave thumb position, with the thumb placed an octave above the open strings. This method gives students a secure technical foundation while keeping the learning process musical and accessible. An appendix introducing harmonics rounds out the book, offering a natural extension for students ready to explore sound production and left-hand placement in greater depth.
